Will the Year of the Ox be one of Prosperity?

The picture above struck me as oddly ironic when i first unfolded it – Singapore’s growth would hit a very bad negative 5% for growth and McDonald’s calling to “usher in MEGA PROSPERITY”.
For the ultra sensitive, McDonald’s advertisement maybe seen as tad bit insensitive, as though it were poking fun at our fears of a looming (oh i’m sorry, i mean, already existing) recession.
Perhaps it’s not McDonald’s fault but SPH’s. Is that why its share price keeps dropping these days despite it being a dividend stalwart?
Given the economic crisis, only a few companies, of which McDonald’s is one, that is able to have expansionary plans to grow – increasing jobs, setting up more outlets and as visibly seen in the newspaper, put costly frontpage advertisments to capture market share. SPH’s market share is slowly being eroded by free newspapers and is finding it harder to prop up revenue from its printing divisions?
Oh back to the actual topic, of which I have only one paragraph to write about. It’s more of a gut feel than anything else. As said in Macbeth, to pharaphase, “things at their lowest can only go up”. I figure we might be around the lowest already. Instead of timing, we ought to practice RSP during this whole year. And if possible, aggressively into equities.
My take is similiar to a more long-term investor – this year will be a pretty good year with surprises on the upside, very in line with one of the articles in a recent addition of the Fundsupermart’s magazine.
Cheers and Success to all!
