Do You Twitter? And Why You Should
I started Twittering a couple of months back and found it tad bit irritating and kinda useless.
Come on. Whatever you can do on Twitter you can do it over IM like MSN or Yahoo right? It is funny to have status updates over a limit of 140 characters too. And if you wanna blog over Twitter, you might as well get an account on blogspot.
Then why is Twitter such a hit? Why is it so well received in many areas? It does seem that the US and Europe are more receptive to it and Asia is a little slow on picking up on Twitter. At least I know 95% of my friends don’t have a Twitter account despite being on Facebook or MSN Messenger.
Twitter is a sign of a trend.
This is a trend of being micro. Because there are tons of information flow wherever we go, people just want snippets of things. Be it watching a show or blogging, people look for something short because there is such a lack of time for so many other things in the world, especially online.
You can see this trend when people watch series less and less (unless they are really really good) and watch clips on youtube more and more. People glance at blog titles for a gist and move on if they are uninterested. Only things that are small and short attract attention for a while. Long stuff turns them off.
Twitter allows people to take in snippets before moving on. And if your snippets are great and attractive, they will want to pursue more by perhaps clicking on the link on your Twitter post. If not they just move on.
You can ride on this trend by participating in it with a huge community. It can be fun and it connects you better to people around the world better than any IM. Twitter makes you easier to be discovered and it allows you to follow others as well, especially interesting content builders.
