Free Traffic Part 4 – Satellite Sites
This part of the Free Traffic Generation Series will be very similar to article writing and site directories. Essentially, it is a mixture of the two, leaning towards the concept of article writing. Even though it might be a repetition of certain concepts but the power of satellite sites warrant some discussion for traffic generation too.
What are satellite sites?
There are current 2 clear and popular examples of what a satellite site can be based on: Squidoo and Hubpages.
These are websites that enable user-generated content. Each mini-site is like a standalone but functions on the platform of the hosting site. It is very similar to Blogger in a way except that Squidoo’s Lenses and Hubpages‘ Hubs function as a splash-page lookalike. I term them satellite sites because they are satellite (different domain name) portions of your own website.
And I highly recommend anyone who seeks more traffic to enroll themselves in these 2 website programs.
Why?
- High Page Ranks
Squidoo at this time of writing has a Google page rank of 7 and Alexa rank of 456.Hubpages (PR:5, Alexa: 709) is comparable as well. Linking back from them to your website will increase your page rank and create a high visibility profile. - Good Quality Traffic
The reach of these 2 ‘satellite enabled sites’ hovers on the millions daily. - Niche Enabled
They have all kinds of topics written in them. Like a wikipedia of sorts, Squidoo and Hubpages are more personalized in nature, super-SEOed and encourages people to talk about their specialties. - Everything Rolled into One
Not only satellite sites based on them can drive huge amount of traffic, you can actually make money from Squidoo and Hubpages via their affiliate programs (Amazon, Cafepress, Netflix etc) and advertisements. You might be so tempted in the range of options they give that you might give up wanting to have a website of your own and ride on their platform! (of course with pros and cons)
Of course having satellite sites does not have to be based on these 2 programs alone. You can even create other satellite sites in other areas like Blogger, Tripod websites etc. But the reach might not be as great due to the factors above.
Here is a blog post on which I created a satellite site for this blog.
Believe me, it can be really fun tinkering around in Squidoo or Hubpages.
