Free Traffic Part 6 – Forum Participation

In this 6th installment of Free Traffic Generation Series, we will talk about using discussion forums as an avenue to generate free traffic.

  • Why go through the trouble of posting on discussion boards?
  • Why not just concentrate on writing articles on your website?
  • Which discussion boards are suitable?
  • What techniques must I employ to increase traffic?

These questions will be answered below:

Benefits of forum participation

  1. More Ideas
I have realised that by participating in online forums, you get the perspectives of many others. This can help in expanding your product range or even get ideas for your marketing strategy.
  2. Feedback
You can ask feedback on the design on the website or the quality of your product. It can be a source for a testbed of product that you are launching as well. Feedback is important to improve quality.
  3. Exposure
Look out for forum rules that allow you to put your website link as your signature. This creates exposure for your site and a good linkback as well. People tend to visit your website if your discussion merits a deeper understanding by looking at your source.
  4. Community building
Like-minded people gather in forums to discuss their interests. You can be a provider for that interest if your website focuses on that. A community is important as mentioned in my post here.

Forum participation acts as a supplement to content creation on your website. Whatever you post on the forum ought to be an ‘appetizer’ to more information which is already displayed on your webpage. Whilst writing on your website is very important and an essential key to success, it must be noted that these content ought to be read as well. No exposure = wasted writing. Hence posting on forums creates that buzz and traffic to see what you have written.

Good traffic generation techniques in forums include:

  1. Linking back to your website using signatures
  2. Engage others in content related to your website
  3. Offer free stuff on your website and promoting it in forums
  4. Participate in various threads instead of focusing on one
  5. Enroll in many forums related to your topic
  6. Subscribe to ‘replies’ so you can continue to engage and create a conversation

There are a few forums I participate in. Since my topic is on passive income, forums I take part in include ASA Forum and DreamTeamMoney.

A forum I encourage people to participate in is MyLot because of its wide ranging topics and that you get paid for posting as well. Do check it out ya?

Success to you!
