Free Traffic Part 8 – Site Directories

In the last installation of the Free Traffic Generation Series on site aggregators, I made the distinction between them and site directories. Though I tend to favour site aggregators more due to their ‘active nature’, site directories are still neat stuff to utilize.

Why is this so?

1) They generate traffic for you passively

Yes! Even if you don’t blog or update frequently, they still drive traffic to you as per normal. If you are not the frequent updater, site directories might even pull in more traffic than site aggregators.

2) Increasing your sites page rank

By associating your website with a site directory can increase your page rank for search engines. There are a plethora of site directories in the internet nowadays and you can really be lost in choosing which directories to put your site in. Well, there’s a trick to this!

The trick is to select site directories with relatively high page ranks. And whilst that might seem like a tedious task to find out the page rank of those sites, you can utilize an add-on in Firefox called SEOQuake to do so. The better page ranks you backlink from, the more weight search engines give to your website in their ranking system.

  3. Blogexplosion (PR:5, Alexa: 54744)
  4. Bloghub (PR:4, Alexa: 68339)
  5. LinkDirectory (PR4, Alexa: 70073)
  6. BlogSearch (PR:3, Alexa: 76752)
