Security – Important Tips

With the world increasingly going online, and people taking up internet identities as their true identities (as opposed to hiding behind a fake name or photograph), it is also increasing more difficult to separate your true person with the person online.

Why? This is because there are more regulations in the industry to make identities more transparent and even more tools to mine for details of others. Whilst this is good in someway to guard against piracy, stalkers, hackers and the like, it also provides these people with the same tools to do possible harm to innocent parties as well.

I decided to write this because I just came across Adam Wong’s article on the compromising of Gmail accounts. For the normal person, it can be quite unnerving to have all your personal mails lost. But for the internet marketer on the street, those people seeking income online, it can be a disaster! And a huge and sore disappointment for those starting out.

So please take some steps to guard yourselves against security breaches. I am no guru but here are some areas you might want to look into:

Use an antivirus! (I use Avira which is free now. You can try Avast too.)
Enable your firewall
Choose personally unassociated passwords and change them often (never give them away)
Guard against phishing
Clear your cookies regularly
Reset your IP address every few hours (every time you log on)
