Why Blogging As A Stream of Income?
As mentioned in an earlier post on my desire on earning extra streams of income, I have decided that having a blog is a great way to do so (even though I haven’t earned much yet). But why the reason to blog? And why Wordpress? Here are the main reasons why I decide to do so. Do you agree with them?
Journalling
For me, it provides a ‘tracking system’ for my journey into trying to earn an income online. Like a diary, a blog helps to set down in words the chronology of one’s progression. I hope that in a few years down the road, I can look back on my old posts and see how not only how my blog has grown but how I have grown as well.
Easy/Simple
Having a blog is one of the most simplest thing you can ever do online. It’s as simple as writing an email and sending out. Only now that the audience is global and anyone can respond to you.
Proven
Whilst I haven’t hit a gold mine, there are people out there who has proven that blogging can indeed be a cash machine. It only depends on how knowledgeable one is (everyone can pick up these skills) and how much time it will take (depending on how much effort one puts it into them).
Many Choices
This translates to flexibility in all sense of the word – what platform you would want to blog on, the exact topic on which your blog is focused on, the time of the day you want to blog (in the wee hours of the morning, during lunch break, at night before you sleep), the frequency of blogging (6 hourly or 3 times a week), where you want to blog. You get what I mean. In the future, it will be increasingly easier to blog on your mobiles too.
The only downside of having so much choices is that the average person will be so lost and not know where to start.
Low Cost
Well… blogging can be free! Try Blogger, Xanga or LiveJournal. But if you are more ambitious and want a brand name of your own. A domain name can cost as low as $1.99 a year (usually it is about $10) and a decent webhost like BlueHost (I am using it and attest for it) costs about $6.95 a month at this point of writing. To put it in perspective, it’s akin to the cost of Extra-Value Meal at Macs. Yes. Wordpress is free too.
Great Content Management System (CMS)
Wordpress is a great CMS. You can practically do anything with it. Be it a e-commerce site, a splash page, a typical blog, an information database, Wordpress can do all of those.
